Scam Email: Tyler He

This scammer had trouble faking a decent last name (and then inverted it for his temporary disposable email address), but otherwise everything else about this scam is all to the formula.

Original email:

From: tyler He [he.tyler@yahoo.com]
Subject: [actual name of painting inserted here]

Hello,
How are you doing? Was going through your works and love this piece. I would like to make the purchase if it is still available.

Thanks and i await your response.

Hello Catherine,
How are you doing? Thanks for your prompt reply. Well,  I'm quite satisfied with the details but would also like to inquire about a minimum price...

Unfortunately, I'm on my way to France and few other countries on an official trip (I'm a marketing Executive) and wont be back for another  couple of weeks, If you'd like to know, I'm relocating  to the UK this month and I'm trying to gather some good furniture for my new abode. I'm buying yours piece amongst others, quickly! before someone else grabs it.:)
Glad if you could let me have me your phone no. so I give you a call.
Best Regards,
Tyler.

PS: In the mean time, you could forward me your full name and contact address so I can mail out the certified check to you ASAP.

Thanks for the post. I was suspicious from the get-go on this since the title was actually a combination of two paintings (looks like a bot just picking up words on a quantitative basis. So I googled the email and your post popped up. Much appreciated!

Hi Kathleen,

I am a fellow artist, living in Pennsylvania.

Just wanted to thank you for your recent blog about the scammer, Tyler he. He just contacted me as well, using the very same note you got. When I replied to him with the price of the painting he wanted, I got the second reply exactly worded as you did. It all felt very 'fishy' to me from the start, and when I checked my website visitor stats, I did see there was someone looking at my website from Nigeria, so I'll bet that's 'our guy'. I entered his email address in a Google search, and that's how I came across your blog.

Thank you for helping to get the word out on these crooks! It made me very nervous when he wanted our home address too. I'm not normally paranoid, but this was too weird!

Sincerely,

Susan

This is a classic scam that I cover much more in depth over at http://stopartscams.blogspot.com.

The more we spread the word, the harder it will be for these scammers to be successful at what they do.

Just to let you know - just got a suspicious letter from the same dude.
I Googled the Jake Preecs name and found your blog -
Thanks for posting, I won't even waste the time answering him.
I can smell these things by the way they're written! Yet they're getting better all the time.

I got the exact same email today from Jake Preecs. It sounded fishy to me, and I went to FB to look him up. He came up under "Art Scams to Avoid" so I sent him an email that told him so.
